Hi,
I guess you are a big time zombie genre fan, I have a question for you.
I always had impression that zombie movies actually describe current world from spiritual and Christian point of view. Which means most people are possessed by demons and those demons attack innocent souls and so on. After watching Zombieland (2009) I clearly see that I’m not the only one who had this impression.
Yet I can’t find no movie critics discussing that aspect of zombie movies. Why? Any idea?
Not a bad question and I think I know the answer. Zombie movies, books etc play on the fear that there likely isn’t a reason why a zombie is a zombie. It just is. If a zombie has a reason or emotional state for being a monster like revenge or a desire/need to kill and torture its prey then it panders to the idea it can be reasoned with.
The idea that a beast/monster etc wants to kill you without motive is far more terrifying than one that has a reason. I believe that if you add the element of religion (or bring up the subject of a religious meaning) then you remove that fear of an unstoppable force. There would be chance, however remote, for redemption or satisfaction that you’re being hunted for a moral or ethical reason.
Sure, there are characters in zombie movies and books that question whether the apocalypse is the result of a deity showing its displeasure with mankind, but its not often given much screen time because that would enter into a different genre.
You got another follower. I like your stuff, and I hope you don’t mind me giving you and your work a shout out.
Great stuff. I don’t know why I am so fascinated with Zombies is but I am. I have to be honest with you though, I told my kids and grand-kids that should the Zombie Apocalypse begin I am laying down in the backyard. I’m done. I have worked all my life to make sure we survived and I am officially tired, but I do wish them all the best of luck. Keep up the good fight and the good writing.
Really liked what you had to say in your post, Contact Zombie Spirituality, thanks for the good read!
